Large, green, and elegant, the Deodar Cedar often gives the appearance of leaning or dripping. Its foliage hangs down on long branches, providing soft edges to the conical form of the tree. This style of branch and foliage is sometimes called “weeping”. Needles stick straight out on each branch, and remain green year round. These cedars are popular as Christmas trees in certain parts of the world.

Foliage
Blue green needles grow in bunches which stick straight out from branches. When viewed together, this creates a swooping effect for the entire tree.
Seeds or Cones
The cone pictured here is far from maturity - barrel shaped and green, with multicolor accents. Once mature, the cone will dry and break open, so that when seen from above, it resembles a flower. Male cones release a cloud of yellow pollen each year, covering anything within a wind gust of the tree in a powdery haze.
