What's this?

The Sierra Redwood, otherwise known as the Giant Sequoia or Giant Redwood, are the largest trees on Earth. These towering giants sport long, red trunks with a high canopy of foliage above. In California, a piece of federal land is reserved for these trees, called Sequoia National Park. Here, tourists come to witness the massive plants for themselves, and get the change to walk amongst hundreds of aged Redwoods.

Foliage

Redwood foliage forms in scaled, branching groups that come together to form feathery greenery. Each leaf has pointed “barbs” that stick out, causing a serrated effect, but the foliage is soft to the touch

Seeds or Cones

For such a large tree, this species has a remarkably small cone. Each brown pod can fit comfortably in the palm of a hand, identifiable by a compact diamond pattern and short stem.
