This species of ash has been widespread across North America, making its rounds everywhere from Illinois to Hawaii, often revered for its beautiful, dense foliage and sturdy trunk. Unfortunately, the White Ash was put under tremendous strain by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, which wiped out a significant portion of the ash population across the contiguous United States and Canada.
Foliage
These leaves are green most of the year, and drop in the fall shortly after turning a deep orange. They grow out from the stem in symmetrical fashion, in pairs.
Seeds or Cones
This tree, like others in the Ash family, has pods that hang down, usually yellow of green in color.

Did you know?
These trees are famously made into wooden baseball bats! For a significant amount of time, they were the MLB bat of choice. Today, only one major league batter choses to continue using an ash bat. The downfall of ash bats in the baseball industry is a direct result of the destructive Emerald Ash Borers, which made it highly difficult to source pro quality wood.
